Buddies

Meghan and Elise Lehrkamp had their pictures taken together on Saturday. It was a little bit tougher to get good shots of them together - 20 month olds don't exactly sit and smile on command. The individual shots are really cute though!

Scroll down to last July to see how much they've changed since last year.

We're Coming to Norman!

A note for Fred’s friends in Norman and the surrounding area…

We’re planning to be in your area over Labor Day weekend. Fred, Meghan and I are planning to go to the OU/BYU game in Dallas on Saturday, September 5th and then driving to Norman either late that night, or on Sunday morning. We’ll be returning home on Monday, September 7th – our flight leaves around 5pm.
Hope to see some of you at that time!

A Long-Awaited Update

It has been a while since we’ve posted here. Not for lack of desire to do it, it’s more due to lack of time.

If you haven’t heard, we’re moving! Not far, just 5 miles down the road. We’re building a new house that will give us more room to grow and will (hopefully) be big enough to sustain our family until our children are grown. It’s scheduled to be ready in December. Since the housing market otherwise stinks right now, we’ve been working hard to get our current house ready to put up for sale.

We’ve kind of been weekend warriors for the past 4 years, replacing the siding, windows, doors, deck, fence, adding hardwood flooring, etc. However, that work slowed (okay, came to a screeching halt) once Meghan was born. We’re doing a pretty good job getting back into the groove of things now though and will (hopefully) have things ready to go in a couple of weeks. A BIG thank you to Fred’s parents, Fred and Cathie, for all of their help over the 4th of July weekend. There is no way we could have made the progress that we did without your help!

And now, for a brief update on our little family. We’ll follow up with pictures soon (I promise).

Stretch (a.k.a. the baby) has been giving me a run for my money the past couple of days. I never had this happen with Meghan, so it was a complete and total surprise to learn just HOW LOW the baby can position itself in my pelvis! Sitting is okay – unless it’s for too long, and then my back hurts. Standing and walking are nearly impossible at times! It feels like the baby is just going to fall out. We’ll hit 28 weeks (3rd trimester) tomorrow and have a 7:30am doctor’s appointment! The scheduled appointments are great – it’s so fun to hear the heartbeat and get an indication of how its growth is progressing. We currently have a c-section scheduled for Thursday, October 8th at 9:30am. It’s getting close!

Meghan is a blast to play and interact with lately. Her vocabulary is expanding daily and she is now regularly putting together full sentences. Two nights ago, she went up to Fred and said, “Happy Birthday to You” (Daddy’s birthday was on July 15th), which was promptly followed by a request for “CAKE”! Birthday’s now mean cake to her! She has decided that she’s done with the baby stuff and tries to be a big kid at every opportunity she gets. She LOVES going to the park (we often take 2 or more trips each day on the weekends) and has a great time on the slides and swings.

A funny snippet of Meghan that I just have to share…Meghan has now had 6 baths in 6 days – while not uncommon for an adult, it’s uncommon for a 20 month old! Not all of them have been given by Fred or I. On Tuesday, Meghan decided to give herself a moisturizing treatment of poop on her forehead, arms and hands during naptime. Sarah (daycare) got to give her a bath then! Last night, her hair got a great conditioning rinse of frosting from Daddy’s birthday cake. While trying to clean her up, I got the same treatment – wonderful sticky and goopy hair afterward – every child’s dream (and parents too!)! :o) She really seems to like the conditioning rinses as in the past week she’s had them with macaroni and cheese and spaghetti (with meat sauce) as well! She also loves dirt/mud wraps – they’re a given when playing in the backyard.

Fred used his birthday gift, a new digital camera to take pictures of Meghan’s mess last night! He got this so that he can stop by the new house on his way to/from work each day to take pictures of our new house construction. The plan is to (eventually) create a flip book to show it’s progress. Cool!

That’s all for now. We’ll keep up with our goal of trying to get more stuff posted on here. Please be patient. You can email us at mn.siouxnr@gmail.com or meghan.steffen@gmail.com (yes, she has her own email address already) or leave a comment – they’re fun to read!
